The African-American Youth Summer Research Academy is a 5-week program held at Buffalo State in July/August. It is designed to engage African-American adolescents in youth-focused action research projects. Participants examine issues and offer solutions that directly impact African-American youth; participate in activities using the latest technology; explore the Buffalo State campus and its other resources; take part in college preparation, admissions, and financial aid workshops; and interact with undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.
The Urban Youth Readers initiative is designed to engage high school-aged students from the urban centers of Western New York to serve as reviewers and recommenders of young adult literature. Unlike traditional book clubs and literature circles, Urban Youth Readers will meet periodically and offer book recommendations for teachers, educators, and community-based educational activists to consider when working with urban youth. Urban Youth Readers receive compensation for their efforts.
