Urban Teacher Collaborative

The Urban Teacher Collaborative (UTC) is a teacher-focused initiative that supports urban classroom teachers as they design and implement innovative, relevant, and sustainable curriculum that meets the academic and personal needs of urban youth.

The Urban Teacher Collaborative (UTC) began in Buffalo in June 2015 with a vision of uniting Western New York urban teachers who are committed to transforming the educational outcomes of urban youth. The goal of UTC is to move our city youth towards empowerment, having them engage their surroundings in meaningful and critical ways.

UTC Focuses On:

  • Creatively using new forms of technology such as social networking sites, memes, and digital storytelling
  • Purposefully recovering and connecting local knowledge to curriculum
  • Meaningfully treating Buffalo as a lived curriculum
  • Actively engaging youth as community researchers
